Today, I went to the bank branch near where I work to make a withdrawal. They’re pushing their Cash Back mortgage plan very heavily. This plan involves, I think, increasing the size of the mortgage by $50,000, and then inviting the prospective indebtee to use the money to buy stuff for their new house.
Fair enough. But I was startled by how heavily they were pushing this. There was a huge poster at the bank entrance and another poster above the bank machine. Then, every single screen on the bank machine contained another ad for the Cash Back plan. When you selected an account, chose an amount to withdraw, and were asked whether you wanted a receipt, yet another ad for Cash Back appeared.
Are there that many prospective homeowners out there?
