Victoria Park subway station is a really gloomy place to be in the winter time – and not that wonderful even at the best of times.

Whoever designed the station decided, for some reason, that grey and black would make a suitable colour scheme. (Yeah, I know, I know – grey and black are shades, not colours – you know what I mean.) In winter, everything is already grey and black, and being inside the station makes it worse – it’s as if all of the colour in the world has been mysteriously leached away. And the floors – which are utilitarian white, naturally – are all covered with dirt and slush and gunk from hundreds of boots. It’s profoundly depressing.

Would it have cost any more money to choose a brighter colour?
