Toronto in the late 1980s (part 1)

This past week, I’ve been busily scanning in negatives of photographs I took in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Here’s a picture of a fish shop near St. Lawrence Market, photographed in 1987:

Note the yellow car in the foreground. Back then, cars were in a larger variety of colours: I don’t know when people started buying only gray and blue cars, but it hadn’t happened yet.

In the late 1980s – and for many years after that – there used to be chess tables set up next to the Sam The Record Man store at Yonge and Gould. Here’s a photograph of chess players from 1988:

Now, the chess tables are gone and so is Sam’s. And everybody in that picture, if they’re still alive, is twenty-two years older.
