A brief baseball-related note

19 07 2011

I can’t believe there is any debate at all about who the best player in the American League is right now.

The two most effective ways to measure hitter performance are on-base percentage and slugging percentage. And Jose Bautista is leading the league by plenty in both categories. His on-base percentage is .470, which is forty points ahead of second-place Miguel Cabrera of Detroit (and 66 points ahead of Adrian Gonzalez). And his slugging percentage is .701 – a whopping 130 points ahead of his nearest competitors. Who else could possibly be the AL MVP so far?

Another David Bowie song, while I am thinking of him:

According to one commenter, this song is meant to honour Florian Schneider, the co-founder of Kraftwerk. That sounds plausible to me.
