The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show!

8 07 2012

The other day, I was reminded of something that I watched when I was much younger – the Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show. Sure enough, there’s footage from it on YouTube now, since there’s footage of everything on YouTube now:

That’s actually a pretty cool lineup of support characters – many of whom were Canadian, and some of whom had been support players on the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour before it was cancelled in 1974 when they divorced. Rod Hull and Emu later became famous for attacking British TV host Michael Parkinson:

(I tried to find footage of Rod Hull and Emu on the Johnny Carson show, but it seems to have disappeared.)

The Razzle Dazzle Show was filmed in Toronto, I seem to recall: that’s definitely the Don Valley Parkway that the Razzle Dazzle Van is travelling on.

While I remembered the Hudson Brothers for their show, they were an actual band, originally from Portland, Oregon. The only song of theirs that I remembered (from the show) was “Coochie Coochie Coo”:

Wow, that’s very seventies.

Bill Hudson went on to marry Goldie Hawn and become the father of Kate Hudson before he and Hawn divorced. He then married Cindy Williams, of “Laverne and Shirley” fame.

Wow, “Coochie Coochie Coo” sounds like someone ate Paul McCartney and had a very bad case of indigestion as a result.

It’s a Divco delivery van that started life as a milk delivery truck for Bordon’s in Toronto. Just came across an add for that very truck on Kijiji, wish I had time and space, and money.
