“Bam Bam” by the Maytals

This blog is gradually turning into my way of inflicting my favourite music on you – apologies in advance!

I am a sucker for old-school reggae and Jamaican rocksteady from the 1960s and early 1970s (though I’m not much of a Bob Marley fan – go figure). In particular, I love all sorts of songs by Toots and the Maytals, who were at one time the biggest band in Jamaica.

Here is “Bam Bam”, which won a Jamaican music competition in 1966:

Frontman Toots Hibbert’s music career went on hold shortly after this when he was arrested for a marijuana-related offense and jailed for 18 months.
