“Sugar Baby Love” by The Rubettes

18 08 2013

I discovered this song a few years ago, and I have no idea whether it is a parody of fifties-style songs or whether the band just has exaggerated respect for the style.

I love it – it’s so over the top.

This song was recorded late in 1973 by British studio musicians. When it went number one in Britain in 1974, a touring band was put together. (So the people in this video who are lip-synching to the song didn’t actually sing it.) The band had a few other European hits in the 1970s, and are still touring.
