“O Superman” by Laurie Anderson

11 09 2013

Today is the 12th anniversary of the planes crashing into the World Trade Center. The Wednesday following the tragedy, WFMU included this song as part of their morning playlist for the day:

“Here come the planes. They’re American planes, made in America.”

Wikipedia informs me that this song was originally released in 1981 on a small record label. When it reached #2 on the British charts, Warner Brothers decided to sign her and release her first album, Big Science. She is still performing and creating new music, and she married Lou Reed in 2008.
